NOTE* IF YOU ARE READING THIS AND ARE NOT CURRENTLY REGISTERED AS A PLATOON LEADER WITH THE OHL
> If you are a Platoon leader and NOT currently registered on these forums and been put into the "Platoon Leaders" group then you will only be able to see the rules and info section + the news section. The Diplomacy section, Mode voting etc will not be available to you as a guest. The majority of these forums can only be seen by Platoon leaders for the purposes of organizing scrims and communicating with other platoons leaders.
WHY USE OHL?
OHL is here to provide platoons in the Oceania region to scrim in a legitimate and credible league playing in the default "Hardcore" version of the game. While other ladders provide a competition around custom settings similar to "Normal" or "Softcore" settings, many who almost exclusively play HC and have done so for many years find these ladders lack credibility in their eyes. OHL on the other hand unashamedly ensures that there is no difference between the battlefield you know and love, and the battlefield you play on in an OHL scrim. Which is the way it should be. There are many advantages for registering with OHL, here are a few;
- Scrims hosted independently by OHL and an OHL Admin, no having to have your own server to participate, or trying to modify your server on the fly. Particularly for smaller platoons this can be really annoying, simply join the OHL server provided on the night and play.
- Independent ladder system through Challonge.com
- Independent dynamic Forums constantly administered and ready to fulfill the needs of the ladder.
- All Platoons have a say in what maps and modes will be played.
- In house competitions outside the ladder throughout the year.
- No weekly "Bartering" when it comes to choosing maps and modes etc, fully automated and administrated voting system to ensure new maps each week and possibly new modes each season to keep the Ladder fair and exciting in the most efficient way possible, without having to waste time negotiating on what maps and modes to play.
- All communication done on forums, no need for setting up accounts on other platoons forums, no need to download mumble if you use teamspeak or vice versa.
BASIC RULES FOR OHL SCRIMS
1/ All teams must have a minimum of 5 players to participate in the OHL. (More on this later - see Rule 9)
2/ As the name suggests, all competitions run by OHL will be playing the "Hardcore" mode of Battlefield without exception.
3/ Cheating of any form will not be tolerated.
4/ EACH member, of EACH Platoon MUST RESPECT their opponents at all times, failure to do so may result in a suspension from the OHL, starting with individuals. If Bad Sportmanship continues to be exhibited, the entire Platoon will be suspended and possibly expelled from the competition entirely.
5/ All disputes will be resolved by OHL administrators, all decisions are final.
6/ Substitution, IE the ability to "Swap" players throughout a match if a platoon has more then 8 players is ALLOWED, however NO additional time maybe added to allow the sub to take place.
6.1/ IMPORTANT! - All members participating in scrims MUST be a member of the Platoon participating in the scrim. The only way a member from Platoon C can play in a scrim between Platoon A and Platoon B is if he is ALSO a member of either Platoon A or Platoon B. So say if Platoon A is down a player, Platoon A may ask someone from Platoon C to play for them IF: 1/ That person is still a member of Platoon A but wears C Platoon clan tags, and 2/ Only IF Platoon B AGREES to allowing that person to play. In short, if FREQ vs BLS are playing and there is someone in the server without FREQ or BLS tags on, the only way that person can be there is if both platoons have agreed to that player being there.
ANYONE Substituting one of their own for someone in another clan -MUST- First ask the opposing platoon if it is OK to do so. If the opposing Platoon does not allow it, then said Platoon must either play someone who IS wearing the correct clan tags or play a man down. - In these situations the Platoon with the extra man IS NOT obligated to play their oppositions minimum.
7/ A "Round" consists of 3 maps of varying modes of a minimum of 5v5 and an unrestricted maximum (more on this later), once both teams have agreed that they are ready the "Round" will go "Live". Once this has happened both teams have agreed to play 3 maps straight and the "Round" will only finish once the 3 maps have been played through and a winner determined, or one team quits prematurely. If a team loses a player due to technical issues, it is up to the his/her platoon to replace that member with someone else and must continue to play with the disadvantage.
8/ IMPORTANT! - WHAT HAPPENS IF A DRAW OCCURS. If a Draw occurs in any of the 3 selected modes on the current ladder. (IE If for example both sides take the same ammount of MCOMS in rush) Then the teams will be asked if they would like to replay the round, IF EITHER TEAM DOES NOT AGREE, THEN 1 POINT WILL BE AWARDED TO -EACH- TEAM. However, if BOTH agree then 2 points will be awarded to the winning team.
9/ Both Platoons are required to play their oppositions MINIMUM. In other words say Platoon A only has the minimum players required and Platoon B wants to field 10, Platoon B MUST only field 5 players. However if team A DOES have 10 players and both platoons agree that is completely fine. The minimum players rule is to ensure both small and large platoons can participate and have fun in the OHL, it gives flexibility.
10/ IMPORTANT! - Once both platoons agree on numbers (and this can happen at any time) both Platoons are obliged to play the agreed amount. If for example Team A and B agree to play 8 players each and then, AFTER the game has gone live and the first map is under way, if Team B loses 2 players for whatever reason, connection issues or whatever, Team A may continue to play with the 2 man advantage (It may not be honorable, but its not illegal). REMEMBER: 3 Maps, 3 Modes, these games can go for a while so if you cant guarantee 10 players for all 3 modes, then don't commit 10 at the start of the round as the other team, once the round has started is NOT obligated to play the oppositions minimum in that circumstance. Once a round is "LIVE", whatever amount of players both Platoons have agreed to at that point stands. (NOTE* a "round" in this instance consists of 3 maps/modes)
11/ IMPORTANT! Rounds MUST ONLY start when BOTH teams are ready, EACH map must ONLY go live after a restart and only once both teams are ready. HOWEVER, once the first map has commenced neither team is obliged to wait for the other team to find another player if they loose one. A Platoon will need an a reasonable excuse for a round to be delayed any more then what is reasonable and it shouldn't be because they are waiting on a player. Again, substitution is fine so long as it is done in between maps and doesn't slow down the scrim. Of course, so long as all Platoon's are patient and empathetic one would hope all will be good sports in situations where a platoon is down 2 players for legitimate technical reasons for example. But deliberate stalling may result in a warning and eventual suspension should it continue.
12/ SPECTATING AN OFFICIAL OHL SCRIM: The ONLY people allowed to "Spectate" an OHL scrim are OHL Officials/Admins. AS apart of agreeing to play in the OHL, OHL staff are permitted to spectate any scrim they like so long as:
- The member spectating is not apart of either Platoon competing in said scrim.
- They make all participants aware the match is being recorded.
- If they post the video online they have permission from all parties to do so.
NON OHL Admins/Officials may ONLY spectate a game IF:
- BOTH parties agree to it.
- Said spectator is NOT apart of either competing Platoon for that round.
- If it is in the OHL server have written permission to put it online by an OHL Admin.
For the most part their should only ever be one person spectating and that is the OHL Official looking after the match.
Any Platoon found to be spectating WITHOUT permission, or breaching any of the above will be expelled from the Platoon, and the Platoon itself will be given a suspension and will have points deducted each match found to be spectating without permission or consent from all parties.
> WHAT HAPPENS IF THE SERVER THE SCRIM IS BEING PLAYED IN CRASHES BEFORE THE SCRIM IS OVER?
- If the server the 2 Platoons are playing in goes down, unless the 2 Platoons can come to some agreement, both Platoons are obligated to replay the map on which the server went down. The round can be played at a later date but the round MUST be replayed regardless of who was in the lead at that time. (Results for the rest of the round stand - its only that map that was being played when the server went down that must be replayed.)
> Who are OHL Officials/Admins?
- The OHL is run by the community for the community. Officials/Admins are simply Platoon leaders who graciously volunteer their precious time to ensure Scrims are run smoothly and by the book.
- ANYONE may become an OHL official/admin, simply send a PM letting us know your interest and we will give you permissions to the official server etc. There is a screening process to ensure you don't go postal on us and bring the whole thing down if you platoon looses a scrim, but again this is a community run ladder. No one gets paid, we do it for the love. When eGL plays BLS, FREQ Officiates, when FREQ plays eGL, BLS Officiate and so on. That way the community stays tight and everyone gets to participate.
NOTE* Meetings are held monthly for all Platoon leaders to express their views and give feedback to ensure the competition gets better each month.
DIPLOMACY - HOW TO SETUP SCRIMS AND THE RULES THAT GOVERN THEM
> So how do I initiate a scrim with another platoon?
- Once your platoon is registered and on the ladder, go to ohl.challonge.com - From there you will be able to see who your playing but more importantly what round. So say your are playing [BLS] in round 1, make your way into the "Diplomacy" section of "The War Room" here in the forums then start a post in the Round 1 thread entitled [YOUR PLATOON] vs [BLS] and start a conversation, suggest 3 different dates/times you would like to play and wait for [BLS] to reply. Once the round is over, ensure results are posted in the same thread.
Each week an OHL admin will go through the forums and post the results posted by the various platoons and in turn put those results on ohl.challonge.com.
* ALL talks in regards to when and what time a scrim is to be played, MUST be done through the DIPLOMACY section of the forums. Speaking in each others teamspeak is frowned upon and at some stage someone MUST post in DIPOMACY when the scrim is going take place and if the OHL Scrim server is required anyway. This allows for transparency so that if any disputes arise we can take care of them, it really is in each platoons interest to do so. If you organize the scrim in a TS server and theres a dispute, OHL administration may not be able to help.
* Results after the scrim MUST be posted in Diplomacy
* Each platoon in the OHL has 3 weeks to play a minimum of 2 rounds, these rounds can be played at any time as long as the correct diplomacy has taken place and the results are posted in the correct section of the forums.
* Important! - IF YOU REQUIRE THE OFFICIAL OHL SCRIM SERVER PLEASE LET IT BE KNOWN IN THE "DIPLOMACY" SECTION AT VERY LEAST 24 TO 48 HOURS BEFORE THE SCRIM IS SUPPOSED TO START. WE CAN'T GUARANTEE THE SERVERS AVAILABILITY, NOR CAN WE BE SURE THERE WILL BE AN OFFICIAL FOR YOU IF YOU DON'T GIVE US TIME TO ORGANIZE THE ADMINS AND THE SERVER.
LADDER STRUCTURE
> The OHL works by the community using forums such as these to organize scrims amongst themselves. Each platoon has a responsibility to ensure they play a MINIMUM of 2 rounds every 3 weeks from the start date of that ladder.
> In order to participate a team must first register their interest to join the OHL Ladder (OHL.net.au) Once accepted they will be contacted by an OHL rep, Once signed up the leaders the have the responsibility to register on the forums send a PM to "Admin" letting the admin know which Clan they are representing - Form that point they will have access to the "Dimplamcy" section etc. (NOTE* If a season is already under way when a PM is sent, that team must wait until the current season is over before joining.)
> There will be several "Ladders" held throughout the year, at the end of the year the winning Platoons from all successive ladders over the year will have an opportunity to play in the OHL "Playoffs" held just before Christmas in which 1 Platoon will win the right to be named OHL Champions for that year and their tags will be enshrined on a virtual cup which will be displayed on the OHL website.
> MODES: 3 different modes are played per each round of the ladder. Modes are voted on at the start of each ladder by leaders of each Platoon (voting is announced on the forums and voting takes place via a poll which will be online and available in weeks leading up to the ladder) Each platoon leader may select 3 different modes he or she would like to see played.
> MAPS: Maps will be predetermined by the OHL and each platoon must play the map set out by the OHL for that particular round (To find out what map to play simply look at Diplomacy to find out which map corresponds to the round you are playing). The ladder is designed so that ALL platoons play the same map for each particular round. So the same map will be played on all three different game modes for each round. So for example if in round 3 the OHL has specified Shanghai, then in that round platoons will play Rush, Domination and Defuse - all on Shanghai.
> Once Modes has been determined, the ladder may begin. To organize a scrim with your opponent first find out who you are versing for that round by clicking on "leaderboards" at ohl.net.au OR going straight to the ladder itself by going to ohl.challonge.net If you are versing FREQ in round 1 for example, go into Diplomacy on the forums, look for round 1 and place in a challenge to FREQ is they haven't posted a challange already with preferred times and dates. (Also post if the OHL server is required)
> Once the scrim is complete it is up to platoon leaders to post results.
> Once results are posted on the forums its the OHL admins job to then post those results on the ladder which can be found @ ohl.challonge.net (This will happen ONCE a week, usually on a Monday)
> Once all rounds are complete the ladder is over and a new ladder will commence
> IMPORTANT! Note that there is a MINIMUM of rounds that must be played every 3 weeks. If a Platoon wants to play 2 rounds in a weekend that is fine so long as the other Platoon agrees to time, date etc. So long as the results are placed in the correct round that the match corresponds to in the Diplomacy section, then those results will be added to the ladder as they happen. So to re-emphasize there is NO limit to the amount of scrims you can play in a given time, only a minimum. If you can get rounds 1, 2 and 5 out of the way in a single weekend then go for it, it's really up to the availability of the rest of the community, willingness to play multiple scrims in a short period of time etc.
CONTACTING OHL ADMIN'S
IF YOU NEED HELP, EITHER UNDERSTANDING THE RULES OR HOW THE OHL IS RUN, OR THERE IS A DISPUTE, OR YOU WOULD LIKE TO BOOK THE 16 SLOT SERVER THERE ARE 2 WAYS OF CONTACTING US DIRECTILY.
OPTION 1/ CONTACT EITHER DRIFTWOOD FROM FREQ OR JABBAJAWS77 FROM BLS - CONTACT DETAILS FROM BOTH CLANS CAN BE FOUND IN THE "INFO AND RULES" SECTION OF THIS WEBSITE UNDER "COMPETING TEAMS TS"
OPTION 2/ SEND A PM TO "ADMIN" USING THE "MESSAGES" FUNCTION - LEAVE US YOUR TEAMSPEAK DETAILS OR SOME OTHER WAY WE CAN CONTACT YOU AND WE WILL CONTACT YOU ASAP.
OHL'S POLICY ON CHEATING
Again, if a team is found cheating in any way, that team will be banned from competing on OHL ladders for life, without exception. How will we know your hacking? If the software we bring to bare here doesn't find you, then the watchful eye of an OHL admin in spectator mode will. And if that still doesn't stop you, a vote can be cast against a team suspected of cheating. If evidence can be shown, and the majority of teams agree, a team suspected of cheating can easily be "voted" out of the ladder.
At the end of the day the Aus/NZ HC community is a fairly tight one, there are far far fewer HC platoons then there are "Normal" platoons. Once you are found out to be a cheater that's a mark that will be with you and your clan for the rest of your days on public servers. It's up to leaders, captains, admins and the individual player to ensure that cheating DOES NOT HAPPEN in the OHL.
> Any software that gives a competitive edge to an OHL member outside of the default programing of the game itself is strictly prohibited. THIS INCLUDES "TRAINERS" "CHEATS" "HACKS" or "BOTS"
If they are found on any single members machine then the entire Platoon that member represents will be removed from the ladder, and banned from the OHL for life. An appeal may be possible in very rare cases.
F.A.Q
Q/ What happens if 2 competing platoons can't agree on a suitable time to play?
A/ It is entirely up to Platoon leaders to communicate and establish a suitable time to play. Each team has 3 weeks to plat a MINIMUM of 2 rounds or face getting removed from the ladder. - That platoon may be able to rejoin after some consultation with admins in the NEXT ladder.
Q/ If a team is found to be hacking and is removed form the ladder will another platoon take its place? or will whoever has to verse them simply take a win in their place?
A/ A meeting will be organized for Platoon leaders should they wish to attend, the infractions will be discussed and a vote cast to determined on how to proceed.
Q/ What if I register my interest on the website but I don't register on the forums as a platoon leader?
A/ All platoon leader MUST register on the forums so that they have access to the "Diplomacy" section which is essential for organizing scrims and admins can contact someone with authority from that Platoon.
Q/ Can anyone register to the OHL forums or only Platoon leaders?
A/ Anyone may register to the OHL forums however only Platoon leaders will be able to see "The War Room".
> If you are a Platoon leader and NOT currently registered on these forums and been put into the "Platoon Leaders" group then you will only be able to see the rules and info section + the news section. The Diplomacy section, Mode voting etc will not be available to you as a guest.
